Skipping Stones

Skipping Stones

A Poem by That1Nerd23

I see the tide begin to rise

The ocean waves are gliding upon the shore

I sit and watch but feel a tug

Telling me that I should explore

So I grab my sandals and walk around

Looking for something on the ground

Then it dawned on me my searching and all

I was looking for my childhood and all that I saw

So I grabbed a thin stone and tossed it in the sea

It skipped a few times as my heart too skipped a beat

And I found some other lonesome rocks, waiting to be tossed

I couldn’t help but to think of those sweet times and memories

The times when childhood felt like the real me

The girl I always miss

The girl who sticks with me

The one who in the mirror, I no longer can see

I love good poems that lament the loss of childhood and innocence.

Like every notable work of this genre, there's something in this poem that manages to tug at our hearts and extracts our own memories, making the experience of reading such a poem a highly personal one. Thank you for such a marvellous work!
