Love's Misconception

Love's Misconception

A Poem by That1Nerd23

Love comes softly, like a morning breeze

That sweeps across your face, revealing a tender smile

It does not come through vast seas or honey bees

But through a gentle whisper that only your heart can inquire

The world searches frantically for such love

Yet few find it in its perfect measure

For love and patience are constant companions

And the world fails to claim it as their treasure

They believe they have obtained love

But fail to truly understand it

Then wallow in their pity as if it were a casket

All because they lack loyalty and commitment

They do not see the pain and scars

The broken pieces they have caused

But breaking and bending innocent hearts

They think only of themselves, as if love was just a game

They wear love like a trend, until it becomes lame

They mask their true feelings for unrealistic thoughts

And try to be the “perfect date” until love simply rots

They strive to get between the sheets, but only for a night

Then run off to their home as soon as they see the morning light

They do not dare to faithfully commit to anyone along the way

Because “that takes the fun out of it”, as so the players say

But love will never visit them, in their “façade of neatness”

Because behind their feigning of perfection, you can see their every weakness

You can see the walls they’re building, like a castle of broken dreams

They’re tattered and they’re torn, from all their wicked schemes

So they put love to the test, by gathering companions like the final glean

But what if I told you that love has a perfect plan

What if I told you that your searching can be put to rest

That your time will come and you needn’t do anything

But guard your heart and wait ever so patently

What if I told you that abstinence makes the heart grow fonder

That when you pursue patience it makes your love grow stronger

And your relationship with each other with last so much longer

And through much prayer and devotion each battle you shall conquer

One finds a beautiful reflection of true, lasting love in your words.. Too often in this day and age, it has become reduced to feelings in the moment... and when troubles come, it too quickly disappears, like fog at sunrise... Your last stanza speaks forth a message to help people make love last a lifetime.. not simply a night. Much appreciated!

I love this poem of abstinence. I'm learning about that in my church right now, and they had u write a letter to our future spouse to give to them on our wedding day. Loved this poem, had me interested the whole time. Flow was perfect. 100/100

Thank you!
I want to encourage anyone who reads this, that what she says is true. Stop trying to fill that whole in your life with fast passed relationships. Not cherishing the heart that is give to you is the biggest mistake you can make. Try to implement commitment before intimacy. It is indeed worth it, because then you will not lose the one you care about. Good poem Jessa.

Thanks.
I understand people have feelings on profound issues that they can't resist spilling out. That's all good, carry on, great stuff. For me personally, I long for POETRY from breathtaking masters of the language.
Anyway, compared to the majority of poems on this site, this is a good one!

This is a lovely poem that truly speaks the truth about love... This one poem for lovers, to know whether or not all they do is deceit.

Thank you so much! I am so glad you found it to be lovely, it means a lot. (:
One of great mysteries of life. I appreciate when someone appreciate me and my thoughts. Love is the easiest gift to give and so sad we give it away so rarely in a life. I enjoyed your thoughts on a interesting topic. Thank you for the excellent poetry.
