Pretending

Pretending

A Poem by That1Nerd23

The saddest thing in life these days

Are men who cannot choose

They hold to such a firm belief

Yet integrity they lose

They grasp hold of democracy

And forget about the Deity

They shift and falter like a branch

When stuck by the lightning of God’s hand

Because they know their time is ending

They see the grave and the tomb

Yet still they live their lives pretending

That their ignorance won’t end in doom

They’re wishful creatures as it seems

But dreams won’t cover sin’s disease

Hence the reason we are here

To help this nation persevere

By offering the gift of salvation

To a lost and needy generation

By proclaiming the victory of the cross

To those who wonder because they’re lost

We’ll tell the story of Christ Jesus

Who hung dead on a cross to free us

Who carried the weight of sins committed

That we allowed and He permitted

Then three days later He rose again

Just as, to us, he once had said

He forgave us for our every sin

And told us to follow as He led

And when death lays us in the grave

He promises us our souls He’ll save

And take us to our heavenly mansion

Where pain no one will feel or mention
