Behind It All

Behind It All

A Poem by That1Nerd23

But beyond the smiles, joy and laughter

Is a broken heart, torn and shattered

Full of pain, regret and sorrow

From the seas of love lost and borrowed

I hide behind a persuasive mask

I try to take it off but put it back

Because I’m afraid to truly trust

Because I’ve been let down so much

People tell me I’m oh so wise

But if only they knew where I compromise

They think I’m strong and never weary

But truth is, I’m being struck by Satan's fury

So I wait and I ponder about my life

I wonder what true love looks like

And if I’ll ever say, “I do”

To someone who will help me through

I fear rejection and separation

So I guard my heart and thank God for salvation

Because without His love, truth and acceptance

I would be just a sin in need of repentance

This is really emotional, and I can sense how bad it feels. It's very well written too. Kudos
