The So Called 'Friend'

The So Called 'Friend'

A Poem by Jess
"

watch out! there are people who pretend to hug you but instead stab you.

"

I was never into all you do

But once I stepped in I couldn’t go

Yours smiles, your words and fake etiquette

Cast a spell on me which I refused to hate

I made you my friend without realization

That there was no match for our mental synchronization

Gradually I felt there was something surely wrong

You had been using me for your purpose for so long

You never really cared about any of my deeds

Unless I was there to cater your needs

But I can’t bear this now I’m way too sore

Though you’ve made me a fool you won’t anymore

Author's Note

Jess
Sometimes there are people who just fake around and pretend to be your friend. But they forget that you exist when you need help.

This is so filled with the pain caused by those who are too shallow to really love, to be a true friend that stays close no matter what. And though you write of the sorrow, you write of the strength as well, to move on with your life and not be pulled back anymore. Powerful.

a person who has been abused, has been burned - there really are people who think only of themselves - but deeds are repaid with the same kind

I loved it very much I can relate to this very well sometimes we could feel like we should have grown a back bone read the signs as they were coming and stopped another useless heart ache when we had the chance..you put the meaning of this poem in a very raw and intense manner which I like. The pain of it comes across beautifully well done Ms Jess..keep it up I look forward to more

Toxic friends will sap your goodness and positivity and not make any efforts to reciprocate because you are a host to their parasite. Will they miss you when you leave, probably not that much, as they move to the next 'host', which says it all.
Intuition and experience make a sledgehammer out of the marshmallows of blind trust and naivety. Smash those fakers with it !!
Inspiring piece Jess :))

Who can't relate to this message? It happens all the time. I just gave a so-called friend "the boot" becuz lovely outpouring of affection started to sound like empty words. You've expressed this feeling so well in your poem. Your rhymes are very complex, which is nice to see. I also like the conversational tone. "Fake etiquette" is a very original idea that applies perfectly.

3rd stanza, 2nd line -- how about deleting first "that" to improve rhythm of reading stanza?

I think I'm one of those people who stay in a conflict about who they actually are. I struggle to find which way i look better. I have a deep imagination which has no end. And if you ever meet me then.. more..
