Tracks.

Tracks.

A Story by Jess Holden
"

I made this in honour of a pic I took of my friend Jessica. We hung out at train tracks today, and I got a really good shot for a story like this. Now here we are!

"

She walks alone, following the rails of the train, ignoring the cars that pass above her. She tries to ignore the beating feeling inside her head, rubbing it with her hand. The rain that quietly falls makes her shiver. She thought it wise to bring her jacket too, making the weather very ironic.

As she balances on the rail, she feels her heart begin to race. Her mind begins to cloud, as she feels suddenly tired and soar. Her shoes wet from the rain and early morning dew, slip off the rail and crash against the stones beneath.

She finds herself unable to get up, her body lying in between each rail. She feels the cold ground beneath her begin to gently shift, almost moving. She tries to get up and look around, maybe even yell for help.

She begins to panic, trying to maybe even shift a finger, or one of her toes, but nothing happens. The Earth continues to shift and move, trying to get away from her touch, maybe even help her up in some way.

Her breath becomes slow as she closes her eyes and feels the wind of the train pass over her. She's safe.

Once the train is gone, she is able to find enough strenght to stand, moving herself off the tracks. Her panic is gone, replaced with happiness and joy that her life was spared. She wipes off her jeans, dusts her hair out of her face and continues to follow down between the tracks. She stops and turns back, unable to breath.

Her body lay on the tracks, bloody, ripped apart by the wheels of the train passing ove her again and again. She had been ripped in three. Her ghost now watching over the tracks, walking the rails on rainy days, just waiting to be saved.

This is great! I loved it!

To me it seems more poetic, but the imagery in it was fantastic. Great job!

I did enjoy this read, but it seems it would be better as a poem, than a short story. Well written otherwise!

Wow that is so beautifully sad. I love the in-between format, not quite poem and not quite a short story-amazing
