Wonder.

A Story by Jess Holden

Short story.

"She never gave herself time to heal, this won't end well..." he stammered, slowly releasing his breath to which he held deep inside his chest. I just shrugged it off, knowing how much he loved her, my words wouldn't have made a difference. "What's up with you today? You haven't said a word in a while." He asked, turning to face me with complete concern in his face. I knew how much he did care about me, and that I could tell him anything I wanted, but I feared that something would slip. "No, nothing's wrong, just full of thought." I said, smiling and looking into his eyes. Green had become my favorite colour ever since I met Sam.

I loved how you could always tell what mood he was in from what shade of green his eyes were. Angry was dark green, happy was almost a purplish colour, and whenever his eyes were light green, he was thinking of the one he was in love with.

Her.

His eyes were light green today. I sighed again, as I realized that he would never see me like he saw her. I had accepted that a long time ago.

"Well, we should go, I don't know how long Tom is willing to wait for us to show. C'mon," he said, taking my hand in his and leading the way through the crowded hallway of teenagers. Just the feeling of his hand in mine was right; like everything else in the world just didn't matter. I was here with him, and he was with me.

Tom had been waiting for over 20 minutes for us to arrive so we could all go and eat. "Hey, where have you two been? Making out again?" Tom asked sarcastically, as I blushed allowing hair to cover my face. "Shut it Tom, we're just friends," he said, glancing out of the corrner of his eye at me. I starred back at him for what seemed like forever, until I herd a thud, and saw him suddenly jolt forward towards Tom. He tackled Tom to the ground, as I herd grunts and giggles coming from Tom's lips.

"I am right, aren't I?" He yelled, as he continually struggled on the ground. I then saw his fist fly back and shoot straight into Tom's stomach. I herd air slip past his lips before he stopped moving.

"Ow man, you know how much that hurts! Damn!" Tom said quietly, as both of them got up off the ground. "What was that all about?" I asked, giving Sam my hand to help himslef up. "Nothing, it's not important," he muttered under his breath. I herd Tom laugh, as he jumped back on his feet.

"Oh yeah, it's nothing my a*s." Tom muttered, as he brushed the dirt from his clothes. "Shut up Tom before I really hurt you." Sam threatened as he ran his fingers through his hair. Now I was really confused. "No c'mon, what is it? I can keep a secret." I asked, my voice rising with wonder. I looked between Sam and Tom; Tom's face blank, and Sam's blushing.

"C'mon guys! Please?" I begged.

"I think I'm in love with you."
