This bad referee that is life can be so unfair
It treats some like royalty and gives them parents who care
They live in warm comfy homes in the embrace of loved ones
Driving nice flashy cars with a pretty face that stuns
Undeserving punks who become arrogant and proud
Who never know pain and lives wild and loud
While some who become victims of this bad referee
Who lives life like in a cage that's so thick they can't break free
They live in fear of every new day for they know not what it holds
Will they have to endure more sufferings, disappointments of bitter cold?
Some have never felt a fathers care, some have never felt a mothers love
This referee place them on rollercoasters that's mostly bumpy, that's mostly rough
They wear a tough shell hiding all the pain behind a smile
They get laughed at and mocked for they don't fit in and their sense of style
This bad referee picks targets out of those who don't deserve it
Take away the dad replacing with a step father who hits
Drops a blessing in the family, so adorable should symbolize peace
Then take away the elder brother! what the heck is this?
This give-only-to-take-away game you play with her is so cruel
Why do you have to be this way to one so sweet and true?
Now she's thinking of running away from what troubles her to the bone
Away from that house that has lost it's title as a home
Why do the innocent cry? Why do bad guys live?
They say there is reason for everything, I guess I'll just have to believe.
Firstly, I love the title, giving fate or destiny, or whatever it is that brings us such chaos, a very relatable human form, as when referees are ever mentioned where I am, it is usually about soccer and the referee never comes out as the good guy. But thinking of it all, no matter the unfairness of our lot, we should realise that without the referee, there would be no game to begin.
I think your last line here is quite profound. All the thought, time and energy we spend looking for the answers to fairness, yet we just have to believe there is something more than an easy ride for some, and constant hurt and suffering for others.
My Dad, who had been ill and in pin for many years, in the last hours of his life transformed. He was smiling and without pain for once and he said to me that it's all going to be okay. I'm sure he got his answer, just in time.
Life is cruel my friend, I wish it wasn't.
Wonderful, thought provoking words.

I really appreciate that you took time to review a work of mine, thanks, really really.
An excellent title, Jerry! A very good use of metaphor for the creator .
Your piece is very heartfelt and written with a sense of realism that must come from experience.
Life is a tough journey and there are many, many bumps along the way. All one can do is ride out these bumps, have faith in their beliefs and endure.
Nicely written. Well Done.

It seems you're writing more these days, which I really enjoy seeing. I haven't been doing as much reviewing, so I need to catch up on any of yours I've missed. This poem is a great way to express the unfairness of life (kinda similar to my poem "Ever Notice" -- some get all the breaks) but your poem here is much better than my simple take on matters, becuz you go into detail & use many poignant examples to get your point across in heartfelt ways. I think this is a rather gentle explanation, rather than an angry rant about the unfairness of it all, which makes this a more compassionate message.
