What Could be Sweeter than thatA Poem by Gerald RayAnother nice little romantic poem but with a twist.Perhaps it could be said this story is too ordinary to make good poetry But it’s a story about two lovers. How much better could it be? They are soul mates. Just a couple of kids in love They make sweet music together. Now surely that should be enough It doesn’t matter to them that it’s a mix and match game they play Or that they’re kissin’ cousins which to some would be quite tawdry and risqué And that there is a lot of difference between his age and hers Now these things are the makings of a steamy plot a good romance novelist prefers You see he is twice her age! Now surely that takes the stink off the rose But as long as they are happy, what’s the harm in it do you suppose? They enjoy a loving relationship, which should be against the rules and in our society would surely be But in theirs it’s an accepted practice and not frowned on at all you see So even if he is just four years old and she is two years younger The fires of love burn in their bellies and set them ablaze with desire’s hunger So I see no harm in telling this sweet little love story Because in every such tale, love has its own measure of glory And it truly doesn’t matter that he’s a handsome young skunk and she’s a pretty little polecat Because, once you get around the smell, what could be sweeter than that? © 2014 Gerald RayReviews
