I Am BlessedA Poem by J. A. PerkinsAn expression of gratitude"I Am Blessed" I could've been an astronaut flying in a rocket to outer space. I'd see the stars a little closer; how they shine and hold their place. But I am just a laborer; a sinner saved by grace, yet I am blessed and find my rest when I have fallen on my face. I could've been a doctor; maybe find a cure for cancer. When the sick would raise a question, I'd be sure to give an answer. But I am just the patient; a sinner saved by grace, yet I am blessed and find my rest when I have fallen on my face. I could've been a singer. I'd sing for all the world to hear. The sound of peace and hope would resonate inside their ears. But I am just a listener; a sinner saved by grace, yet I am blessed and find my rest when I have fallen on my face. I could've been a business man; making deals and lots of money, though I've read that sickness comes when we have eaten too much honey. But I am just a layman; a sinner saved by grace, yet I am blessed and find my rest when I have fallen on my face. I could've been a preacher; A faithful servant to the King. When I'd speak, the earth would listen and find their place beneath His wing. But I am just a drifter; a sinner saved by grace, yet I am blessed and find my rest when I have fallen on my face. I could've been a sailor; just my boat and an open sea. But if I could be anything I want, I'm okay with being me; a child of God, bought by love, a sinner saved by grace, for I am blessed to find my rest when I have fallen on my face.
