Nagged About Life

Nagged About Life

A Poem by Jerry Ables
"

My wish for you is that you never have to deal with this!

"

Every time I've ever enjoyed anything,

You've nagged me to death about it

Everything I've ever held dear,

You've nagged me to death about it

Every time I lean to the right,

You say I'm being too rough

Every time I lean to the left,

You say I'm being too soft

Every time I'm anywhere in the middle,

You criticize that I have no spine

And that I'm just straddling the fence

Well now, I've had enough of you

And your irrational need to judge me

Just so you can boast your greatness

Yes, I do admit as a fault

That I've tended to get carried away

With things I've enjoyed partaking

And I need to work on that,

But must you really use that to excuse

Your irrational need to condemn me?

Must you really use that to excuse

Your acting like it's your worst nightmare

That I don't hate being alive?

You talk like you think so highly of me,

But your overall way of treating me

Is like I'm no more precious

Than last night's dinner scraps

Well now, I've had enough of you

And your contentment to be such a loser

That all you ever want to do with me

Is nag me incessantly about life

Now either you get a new hobby

Or I'll see about getting a restraining order
