Can't Marry Yourself

Can't Marry Yourself

A Poem by Jerry Ables
"

I sympathize with anyone who's ever had to deal with someone like this!

"

You've inclined me very much to believe

That every time you've ever corrected me,

Every time you've ever told me no,

Every time you've ever chastised me,

Was strictly for the benefit of your ego

You always try to harass and degrade me

Into changing my entire personality

And train of thought just to suit your own taste

You try to act like you're my friend

You try to act like you care about me

And beg me not to be mad at you

While being deliberately hurtful toward me

And showing me such utter disrespect

Just because I've ever done any type of error

And because I don't center my very existence

On being a cheap imitation of yourself

In everything I think, do and say

If you love yourself so much,

Then why don't you go marry yourself

Oh wait, you can't do that

Now, I think I see why you're always upset

"Every time you've ever told me no,
Every time you've ever chastised me"

This situation is very much like a parent and a child... unsuitable for a spouse relationship. I like how it flowed. It's a very great piece, I love it!
