Laila

Laila

A Poem by Jerry Doran

I went to sleep thinking of bright sun and blue skies.
However I awoke and to say the least I wasn't a bit suprised.
It's just another day spent in these sleepy snow covered towns.
Winter makes me feel like I'm caught on a deserted frozen mountaintop and never coming down.
But luckily contrary to the negative thoughts currently in my head
My heart tells me there are brighter days on the horizion just ahead.
I'm looking forward to what April and May have to bring.
I'd love to see the ocean, the Chesapeake is beautiful in spring.
The smell of the salt.
The sound of the waves crashing in the sea.
I close my eyes, now its all coming back to me.
The rising sun gives birth to health and hope.
During long winter days it's memory and promise to return give us strength to cope.
A million dreary days I'd neglect for one summer sunset.
Endless cold nights could stay frozen in winter before my eyes
And I'd pass them all by for one shining summer sunrise.
Winter is spring's disguise.
The equinox discards the mask revealing the beauty it hides.
The earth then comes alive.
Born again in it's colorful seasonal skin.
The seasons of life and love begin.
No longer hidden beneath the frozen ground.
Like a burried treasure waiting to be found.
The world is lively, green, and lush.
Just waiting for our experience and touch.
It's beauty is on display for our admiring gaze.
But be aware it only lasts so many days.
When it comes, it comes gloriously and also with haste.
There is no time to waste.
We must embrace and take it all in.
I know I cant wait for the beauty of spring and summer to begin.
