I Tried....

I tried to write of love,
of the warmth n beauty
of another soul's recognition,
but words escaped my mind
n left my pen dry,
for I had never known love,
never had love.

I tried to write of joy,
of the euphoria
that the gift of laughter brings,
of the warmth of happiness once had,
but my hands trembled
n went limp,
for joy my heart had not,
n never had.

I tried to write of friendship,
of the strength n love
of a solid friend,
but my mind went blank,
for apart from my shadow n I,
my life's path,
was nothing but a lonely n
empty plain...

I tried to write of sadness,
n in her, I found a worthy companion,
always ready to shower me with gifts of pain n quiet misery,
my little mirror on the wall,
always showing me,
who's the saddest of them all.
