Burned Myself AgainA Poem by Jeremy WyattI burned myself again the other night
Glowing red bright in the dark saw it whilst walking to the bridge over the river hoping that the tide was in a cigarette flung from a car was tumbling I picked it up and stubbed it out on my thumb good pain she was so down and crying I needed to hurt myself then pretend that the pain I was feeling was hers the tide was out at the bridge and I was cold so I crawled home to my misery again 'Returned to my sin like a dog crawls back to lick it's own vomit' Gregory of Tours wrote something like that I lied the next day that I ironed my thumb in work Felt so bad lying I put the steam iron on the blister made the lie smaller and the pain worse she hadjust needed the cry and a hug not for me to go and crash and hurt myself I think I might be about to stop doing all these stupid things starting with being be honest and truthful I had stubbed the Cigarette out on my eye of Horus tattoo He would have sneered at me © 2011 Jeremy WyattAuthor's Note
