Song Induced Reverie

Song Induced Reverie

A Poem by Jeremiahh

Louder than sound,

more vivid than sight,

this song induced reverie

keeps me up through the night.

Tearing open old wounds

that took too long to seal.

Reminding me that some pains

just never quite heal.

A song that once blared

from the speakers of my car,

now pierced my heart with memory

of the night she went too far.

In the background it played,

at the party that night,

when my eyes turned to reveal

a breath stealing sight.

The one that I called angel

acting nothing of the sort.

Caused my mental image of her

to rearrange and contort.

Still confused today

by my sudden loss of breath,

I nearly fell to the ground.

I almost wished for death.

But the other way I walked;

I chose a different path.

I left my heart at the party that night,

rather than let them see my wrath.

Now the song that had been playing

was burned into my skull.

And so every time I hear it now,

I find myself in this false lull.

Reminding me every now and then

of the danger of accepting trust.

That no matter how much you think she cares,

she'll always surrender to lust.
