Heart Like a RoseA Poem by Jennifer KA heart and a rose are both unique beauties but can one find beauty in a shattered heart and a wilted rose?It all comes back to me Hitting me at once Pushes me off track Back to square one We walked through the door Hand in hand like always My smile shined more I was brighter in our days It was late Friday night And I had to sneak back inside Even though it all felt right Standing close to your side Your sweet smell fills my nose And your perfect laugh in my ears You had brought me a rose Your words bringing me to tears Those tears may have been of joy Joy believing your one big lie You played me like a toy So I left that rose to die You used me to get her Didn't care for me at all It all happened in a blur Not expecting your final call Now I walk home alone And cry myself to sleep At myself, throwing stones For being this weak The rose finally turned brown And all its petals fell Like how my once whole heart Fell down to the ground My heart is like that rose Once so full of life But when it came to its woes They both died in the strife Both wilted and shriveled More petals falling each day So significant, yet so little I couldn't throw it away They can be different in this case The rose and my heart I kept the rose in its vase While my heart was torn apart I find beauty in the dead flower With its shriveled stem and thorns It gives off elegance and power That I need while I mourn So I keep that rose Beautifully displayed Because it is a sign Of how my heart was played -j.k.
