Self-concious smilesA Poem by Jennimy CricketPoem about exactly how I feel round certain people, like what we say is scripted but they dont know their lines, or have a different script.Self-conscious smiles and awkward pauses Have always been excitement’s fancy; To while away the mundane moments In ones own script all deftly planned. You see it all, in your mind’s eye; Creeping shadows of Future’s twine. The paths you tread, hoping vainly, That others have all learned their lines. But, alas, we all have different plays, By different playwrights, with different styles, And what seems to be the perfect moment Can oft’ slip by, midst hesitation’s haze. And yet we keep on meeting, friend, Our paths overlapping, crossing, clashed. New tries at scenes yet unrehearsed; New nervous nods and halting laughs; New monologues running through our heads Of where to look up, how and when. The useless detours with no true course That we hope will cross our threads again. And yet we fear, as each clash resounds, Rejection’s icy churning hold And so, my friend, we never speak Just enjoy our envisioned alternates. © 2010 Jennimy CricketAuthor's Note
