Walk Of Shame

Walk Of Shame

A Poem by Jenny Davis

So I make my way out today
and find myself a' wandering...
Past little trees, a hay fever sneeze
and sights that are astounding.

Through bloodshot eyes from exercise
and things they recommend, to offset depression,
a quiet confession, with bills in hand to send.

I see a truck, just my luck,
idling in a cloud of black, I cuss and fuss,
covered in disgust and decide to head on back.

But first I spy some mud in the eye
of a boy 'bout two or three, who cries and cries
without a disguise of who he just might be.

He's a homeless child, born bad and wild,
or so that's what they say, yet I muster a smile
and give 'em a pile of coins I could've used, but hey.

There's some with less, what a mess,
I see they got you too, but why not share
and don't compare when asked what did you do.

'Cause it ain't right, to expose your plight,
be silent in your tasks, the only Man who has a plan,
is aware- if not He'll ask.

Gettin' on, it's almost dawn,
where did the time get thrown, it takes awhile
to walk in style when reaping what the world has sown.

Such a simple message that we all need Jenny. The gentle reminder of how thankful each of us should be for our blessings and how when we think we have it bad, all we need to do is look on the other side of the fence. It's the simple things that mean so much...the small acts of kindness that we often overlook like the pile of coins you gave the little guy. When we give we receive back so much more than we ever thought possible.

I could feel the struggle with your allergies (bloodshot eyes) as you walked outside probably getting ready to hop in your car to mail your bills. Just an ordinary-run of the mill day-but then you saw the homeless boy and had an opportunity to touch him through a small act of kindness. Has the ability to change an ordinary day into something extraordinary.

You must have a teaching gift because your writing always has a special message to impart. Thanks for your diligence here on the Cafe. You are a blessing...

God Bless You, Carole

oh i love the message this poem radiates. You may think you are down and out, but when you see someone worse off then you you realize you can always give a little more. Such a great flow and rhyme scheme. Lovely!

You and your words are both such a powerful tool in the world today I am always in so grateful to be able to call you a friend and this is only one more of many reason I feel I'm honored to know you. I love the style and almost playfulness of your words here and the social issues they address in a manner that is eye opening and heart warming to know there are others that see the problems of the human race and are willing to try and do something about them.

Great Job!!!!!!

I admire this piece and the positive, gratitude attitude that it exemplifies. Sometimes, it takes seeing those who are less fortunate to make us realize what we truly do have. We all have things to be thankful for ... and we also all have things that annoy us. I relate to the allergies! Totally. Thank you for the reminder, I really needed it.

This is an amazing intricate poem. On the surface I see kindness to those less fortunate and anger towards those who would use and abuse.
Underneath I see resentment towards those who have gotten more, via selfish means.

The last stanza truly brought a twist to this, as it clearly shows a person who has missed the joys of life, while persuing physical wealth by consuming from others.

I thought the imagery was well done! I would question the comment about the truck idling in the cloud of black. I would ask, was it hot or cold outside? Could the truck help it?

Other then that part this poem was very powerful.

Hello Jenny, you are so right....this world needs compassion and altruism, that's what we don't have. Capitalism is not friendly. Your poem made me think. It is a shame on our society that we don't see. I see parents beating their kids....I am in rage and yet once when I told the father not to do so I was risking a slap into my face so that I just went away. Any form of physical punishment is forbidden in Germany...yet...I don't know about other countries but so many new born babies are just killed...one mother even put a living new born baby into a freezer...another one had 3 of them in her freezer born in the 80ties and she was living with her another 3 kids and husband as a nice person in her neighbourhood.. this world needs more love. in every school there should be love-givers payed by government for all the kids who never get enough of it. fantastic poem darling, you make us think. brilliant and wonderfully flowing. hope all is well. I miss you!

You reap what you sow, oh yes this is so true. I love your use of internal and slant rhyming throughout, it really gave this whole poem a wonderfully musical quality that worked so well with the meter and message. Great work my friend.
