A Rose Is Gone...

A Rose Is Gone...

A Poem by Jenny Davis
"

For my Grandma

"

Clouds weep

mourning laughter and color.

Wilting flowers sigh with the wind,

sere and somber.

A rose is gone...

plucked by bestial hands of time.

Yet she'll grow anew again

and grace the garden

in splendor.

I have a good friend that is watching his grandmother (who has always been a mother to him) fade slowly away. For that and many other reasons this is touching to me.

Poetry that is lasting always reaches outward from the heart of the poet and into the hearts of those blessed enough to read it.

This is such a beautiful piece... I'm sorry for your loss.

ah, very soft and soothing. great use of sound, and movement, from the sadness of loss, to the hope of life renewed. very well done. zig

I liked this poem in a way you have personalised the non-human objects and its great especially in the start of the poem,

"Clouds weep" which I favor the most and this line,

"plucked by bestial hands of time."

There are so many images I can imagine and relate to. Thank you.

You know I was just out in my garden today looking at all the plants that are just starting to wake up from their wintry slumber and I saw how the girl who helps us had cut back all the roses to the ground...the thing is I know that they will grow tall again just like they do every year. Then when autumn comes and its time to cut them back again there is feeling of sadness, even though I know that they will be back again. Death is like that too in some ways. Your poem expresses that so perfectly that I am sitting here fighting back tears. This one goes in my favorites.

Very emotional and touching write, and at this time with my mother-in-law in the hospital, I feel my own pain while reading this, a heartfelt write from the garden of life and death. She passed out in the street yesterday from angina attacks she is in intensive care now, and is like a mother to me. I am hoping she comes home today, my husband is at the hospitail with his sister right now.Shelly
