Food For Thought

Food For Thought

A Poem by Jenny Davis
"

Inspired by something I said once or twice... "My soul is a bowl of Oreos waiting to be dunked. If you don't have any milk, I can't be eaten by you."

"

My soul; a bowl of Oreos--
displayed on wooden arms,
smiling up at a plastic smile.

Circles; within a circle--
soft and white at center,
hard and dark on surface.

An open dish; giggling--
with thoughts of liquid white,
to drench and quench substance.

("My soul, a bowl of Oreos--
If you haven't any milk,

I can't be consumed by you.")

Now has quite a fascinating message using a interesting metaphor... I don't have time for those either that use ignorance as there education for they have nothing worth saying to me that ain't a waste of my time...

On a side note I agree with Blackbird Oreos without milk is sac-religious, we must consult the bible ;-)

Marvelous work. I fear I am much like Gary when it comes to Oreos, and I am lactose intolerant, however, the metaphor is glorious. I really love this piece. It gave me both pause and a giggle at the same time. Really wonderful poem. Many cheers.

OK, so only last week I found Oreos in one of our stores. BOGOF - do you have this phrase in the US? Sure you guys invented it. Anyway, I thought well, why not, as they looked good on the packet and they were chocolate - yeah, usual considerations for shopping....he he!

But, they were horrible, no wonder there is an obsession for dunking - to take the taste away. Seems I'm the only UK reviewer so far as well. Oh dear, hate mail on it's way now.....

Please note Jenny - there is nothing metaphorical in this review. The above is true! - clever poem!!

I like the playfulness of this poem, how the oreos are pictured in this poem like a still life.

I'm sorry, but eating oreos without milk is an unnatural act in my book. I think it's even mentioned in the Bible somewhere actually. LOL

Light piece, I liked that and a surprisingly deep philosophy within such a seemingly cute poem. Great write,
