Lady Tree

Lady Tree

A Poem by Jenny Davis
"

The trees are still unclothed and it's April!

"

Lady tree - in waiting
Why do you smile?
It seems like forever,
you've been hanging there-
suspended in winter's curse
gray, pale and under clothed.

No eyes, nor wings
have graced your arms
that stretch to the sun
for warmth-
Yet you, dear lady,
remain hopeful.

Alive you are
under that cold blanket
that covers-
inhibiting your beauty;
Hope is your comfort
while you shake.

Your bare bark
skin stands stodgily-
poised as a mannequin;
awaiting Spring
to dress you,
fret no more, She's coming.

I love the feeling that this piece gave me of hopefulness and the power of the image of a long winter coming to an end to a much need renewing of life and nature. The embodying and embracing of life as a whole. The weary traveler finding a place to rest and regain their strength. So vividly does this play in my mind as I feel refreshed and alive today this couldn't have come at a better time.

Great Job!!!!!!

This is a beautiful piece of poetry; I too enjoy writing about trees & flowers. This one is very well written & my mind's eye easily embraced Lady Tree's journey through winter & her hope of the coming spring.

I wrote a piece titled 'Mr. Timberline' that I think you would certainly enjoy reading. The nakedness of the tree is viewed from a whole other perspective. I think you would also enjoy my 'Lady Temptress' piece which is about the crocus flower & 'Lusty Mound' about Golden Tickseed.

I simply adore this write! An excellent piece of poetry!

How incredibly beautiful. I have in mind a strong young lady that is waiting to blossom. All the bones and brass are there to make an outstanding woman, but she must wait 'til spring to bloom.

My words fall flat, but this is one incredible poem... star in the next book?

Wow I love how you start if off making it seem that is is a true, but then it becomes an epiphany for the reader to make that reader realize that it is a metaphor.

I realize this piece is about a tree - but, it became a metaphor while I read. One whose life has taken a bad turn - waiting for the spring to return and re-awaken them. I agree with Robert that this work is filled with inspiration - that Spring does always come, sometimes late in arriving. excellent write!

Honestly... have the trees ever been bare for so long into the year than this one? This poem is fresh and simple, with magnificent imagery. Is the painting you have posted above the poem a work of yours as well? Either way, it's a great combination. The tree as a lady in waiting! I think spring bring hope for all of us, and this piece matches our much-needed optimism very well!
