Pessimistic Rhyme

Pessimistic Rhyme

A Poem by Jenny Davis
"

This month's VENT for my show, Vent Radio.

"

Epedemia
Hysteria
These things
I want to say to ya
Close your eyes
not your ears,
reality
not fears
Written on a page
that screams rage
from within its cage
of blank

New York's Spitzer,
the monkey in the middle
can you solve the riddle
of the ring around the hosies
while human traffic

jams the forgotten posies

Tears wafting
in the noses
of those classified
rich or poor
the middle class died
with the war-
no one's keeping score,
what for

We've got drugs to drink
from our kitchen sink
and tires to burn in Suburbia
let the smoke flirt with ya
as the blackness signifies humanity
replaced with greed, ignorance and vanity
Where's Susan Powter
Can she really stop the insanity

Fat cats smiling
exercising patient profiling
Obesity a side effect
of technology
not biology
Religion overshadowed
by astrology
Look up criminology
it's just an analogy
for pharmaceuticals,
guinea pig festivals
hidden in a red carpet
smile

Falling apart at the seams
watch behind the scenes
as the girl in the size zero
is our newly appointed hero
Adopt an African child
and the crowd goes wild

The back row hisses
as pink lips blow kisses
winking at the distraction,
the attraction, she's caused
bigger than Jaws
the movie
While I, the would be
maybe-
poet
is pushed down
face up
compelled to write
this stuff

It's just a pessimistic rhyme,
with good reason.

Wow and yes and preach it sistah and amen to boot!!!! I read about Spitzer today and was just so angry and I'm also wondering how many other people like him were involved in this and if he's just the fall guy. Makes me so glad I don't vote.

Also consider doing this as spoken word...your poetic voice is particularly strong in this one.

Love it and off to put on my favorites!

your lead in with the pharmaceuticals in the water then the following subsequent flash items is a nice logical sequence. Like the aftermath of some toxicity, reminds me of the Tromaville movies on nuclear waste where the careless neglect of such waste leads to hysteria in society, the transformation of humans into mutants, news gone wild.

I loved this and thought you wrote it so wonderfully and I have to tell you it took on a whole new meaning to me than your other reviewers as I was listening to Color Blind by the Counting Crows while I was reading this and WOW I am not sure if it was the song or the place that it put me as I heard and read it was purely a spiritually awakening as I felt this connection of life and the world surrounding me all come into focus and seeing it in a new way with new eyes. Like seeing it for the first time or seeing it after I had been there a hundred times before but the way the light was hitting it today made it change into something purely breathtaking. I know I am rambling but I feel so grateful for the experience.

Can i get an Amen? looks like one from BBS.. this is wonderful!!!
I agree with you and love love your metaphors.. oh i get upset.. not that an African child does not need a family too .. but what of these children here ? I have called to sponsor a child and asked for one in the US.. they had none .. i had to call some other number and got no answer..
The medication in the water! What the heck?? Could not believe it , i don't know why i was a bit shocked ..
This is great.I have read a few rant poems today that are wonderful!
Good writing and venting!

... you are great with these free flows, wow. This isn't the first time you've knocked my socks off and I'm sure not the last time either. This is great how you kept everything fresh with the latest news stories. There is something in this for everyone and to say this stuff doesn't affect us all in some way is an understatement.

Excellent writing, Jenny. :+)

*applauds* Here! Here!

Great vent. Agree with everything. Loved the flow, nicely done. I was shocked about Spitzer myself, hmm nothing new I suppose since we here in NJ had our share of govenor scandals as well. *cough*McGreevy*cough*

I read about the water thing when you had the link up - here, I'm on well water, which I'm certain has its own realm of crap in it between run-off from the farms and pollution. Never drink anything but bottled water - not the fancy stuff with all the extra stuff in it either - just plain ordinary spring water lol. It's no wonder kids are hitting puberty so early these days - and there are all sorts of stuff popping up here and there health wise. in the end, you are right on the spot - the fat cats pack their wallets with cash - and the masses pay with more than their money. great venting here!
