Ok: Here It Is (My opinion)

Ok: Here It Is (My opinion)

A Story by Jenny Davis

There has been a lot of "drama" rolling around this site lately.

I think it's about time things rise to the surface.

I don't like airing dirty laundry, nor do I appreciate gossip,

name calling or being rude. Yet, this is what I have seen here lately.

It seems there are a few members here that think it is okay to post naked avatars of themselves or someone else. If this was a sex site then that would be fine. But it isn't. THIS site is for writing, at least that is what I thought.

See, there are children on this site...I have seen some as young as 11 and there are NO WARNINGS about these avatars anywhere here. Yes, the parents should be responsible but so should the writers!

What I find amazing is the fact that when myself and a few others commented in jest about this whole thing, whereas I said "Someone needs to put their shirt back on," I was immediately attacked and called a "myspace w***e" for saying what everyone else was thinking.

I think that saying that was rather ironic since that is the very place these people came from.

A really close friend of mine got the worst of it though and when I told that person to stop, she blocked me for saying "That is something a kid would say." What would one expect when they act that way?

Further, what would one expect when they have a picture of themselves wearing only a bra as their avatar? Did you honestly think no one would comment? Maybe the boys like it and that is wonderful...I mean there is nothing like having the attention from someone solely for your body, right ladies?

Ummm...not. See women like me, we like to be valued. We don't want a man to appreciate us only for our looks...and trust me most of us could do it if we wanted to. So the theory of only the old and the ugly are upset about this is a big fat myth.

But of course an expected rebuttal.

The point is, I don't like nude avatars with my morning coffee. I think it is distasteful and irresponsible. So attack me if you must. But remember, I don't dislike you, I only dislike what you have done here.

Who am I to say this? No one really. Yet I am allowed to speak my mind right here in this writing. That is the beauty of a site like this, I am free to voice my opinion about anything and everything. However, I don't attack people on a personal level, again that is my choice.

As for the idea of expressing oneself in the name of art? Absolutely, I am all for it! Draw yourself naked and then we have something that's creative, my friend :)

I found a big pink n****e this morning. And looked quick behind me to make sure there was no one to see. Hazards of peeking in while at work I guess. My daughter occasions the site. We have an agreement that she stays away from any work with the red letter warning at the top. Most people are pretty good at labelling their work.

There are lots of ways to express your sexuality without all that. I think there's a time and a place for it. While I don't think it's my place to ask them to remove it, if you're going to do something to draw attention I think you should be able to handle the comments maturely.

Actually, the majority of the people with such avatars, at least the ones that I have seen, do have mature warnings on their page. They fulfill their responsibility and put the warnings out there. If a minor goes and look, that is a failing on their part, a flaw in their own integrity. I believe that these sexually explicit avatars should be treated like public displays of affection, if you don't like it don't pay it any heed.

Now, as to my own opinion, I neither agree nor disagree with the principle of allowing the avatars, as I do not let that affect me. I personally am here to write and read the works of others, not go picture peeking. Why not ignore that as well?

Although this is something that I don't really want to do from the joint site, as I am speaking for Natalie as well, I just read this and thought I have to agree with everything you have said. I'm very disappointed by the lack of integrity shown by many people on the site. I am not a prude. Also I appreciate that young children do read everything here. We actually have an opportunity to get young people interested in writing and following great work. This means we can be very influential and need to be responsible for what we say and do here.
I personally do not think that adorning your avatar with a naked part of a body is a good thing. There may be a perfectly justifiable reason for doing this so I am not in the position to criticise. As Emily says in the featured review, handling yourself in a mature way is what this site is all about.

Im new so i have yet to witness all those naked avatars...but u know how it goes...no matter how u try to preserve a site the perverts get hold of it and start to molest it...happens everywhere. And I do admire u so much for speaking up about it...I completely agree with u. And ill speak up abt it wen its my turn to have all this nakedness shoved in my face!

alright so heres my amazing oppinion on this whole deal. Number one who wouldnt want to see me in a thong come on....... hahahaha..... number two i under the whole mautre rating thing, but ive read some pieces that say mature that arent even pg-13! Not even close so when i writer something mature i think that it has to have nudity in it..... or someone has to get brutally killed or every other line has to be a Fu or a GD. Our generations differ though... the young people i dont think we care as much... you older people not saying your old cause i dont know how old you are.... seem to get more upset.... and you know its all a woman thing... cause if your guy who doesnt wana see tities........? I saw one of those avatars... and it had some shock value... but i didnt read the piece... so you may be right the pic may not matter... if you suck at writing. Anyway you made me think so im giving you a high rating for this one good job!

I am new to this debate, but I think you are just seeing the fallout from years of society gone amok. When you ask many girls today what their qualities are ... they think for a moment and pull out a breast. Yes as a man, I appreciate a nude woman, but I also recognize that a woman who has only her willingness to be naked as an asset will use that lone asset to take advantage of every man they can. Not my idea of alluring! Society shows girls that they will be "loved" and popular by showing themselves.

Pity!

I guess I have not seen these avatars you speak of. But I agree there is a place for that type of thing and this is not it. There are no child blockers on here and that is not right to be placing out there where a child can stumble across it. I am glad you are proud of your body but it does not need to be shoved in everyone else's face. But at the same time I do not agree with censorship other than underage. There are times that we must really look at stuff like that and ask would w want our children seeing something like that. But just my thoughts.

Great Job!!!!!

Great writing. Your points are sharp and well phrased. You don't need to go far to find topics hu? :)

All valid points, and well written.

I do find it interesting, however, that what continually rises to the 'top writing' spots each week isn't what I consider 'creative writing'. It's usually a list of complaints (many valid) about the members of this site, or how it is run.

I don't know how to rectify this problem - but I know it's discouraging to see works that people have poured their heart and soul into trumped in a bogus rating system by works which weren't really intended to be 'creative writing'.

But as always, I will continue to be part of the problem - I give all works I read '100', but also my honest thoughts and critiques.

Great valid points, many of which the reasons why I stopped. Plus, I hate fighting and having confrontations with people. Just doesnt seem worth it. I try to be a nice person and a friend to everyone I meet no matter where I am, even on the internet. I give you credit for expressing yourself in this situation and being open about it.

By the way, loving the new avatar. =)

Rayne.
