Ok: Here It Is (My opinion)

Ok: Here It Is (My opinion)

A Story by Jenny Davis

There has been a lot of "drama" rolling around this site lately.

I think it's about time things rise to the surface.

I don't like airing dirty laundry, nor do I appreciate gossip,

name calling or being rude. Yet, this is what I have seen here lately.

It seems there are a few members here that think it is okay to post naked avatars of themselves or someone else. If this was a sex site then that would be fine. But it isn't. THIS site is for writing, at least that is what I thought.

See, there are children on this site...I have seen some as young as 11 and there are NO WARNINGS about these avatars anywhere here. Yes, the parents should be responsible but so should the writers!

What I find amazing is the fact that when myself and a few others commented in jest about this whole thing, whereas I said "Someone needs to put their shirt back on," I was immediately attacked and called a "myspace w***e" for saying what everyone else was thinking.

I think that saying that was rather ironic since that is the very place these people came from.

A really close friend of mine got the worst of it though and when I told that person to stop, she blocked me for saying "That is something a kid would say." What would one expect when they act that way?

Further, what would one expect when they have a picture of themselves wearing only a bra as their avatar? Did you honestly think no one would comment? Maybe the boys like it and that is wonderful...I mean there is nothing like having the attention from someone solely for your body, right ladies?

Ummm...not. See women like me, we like to be valued. We don't want a man to appreciate us only for our looks...and trust me most of us could do it if we wanted to. So the theory of only the old and the ugly are upset about this is a big fat myth.

But of course an expected rebuttal.

The point is, I don't like nude avatars with my morning coffee. I think it is distasteful and irresponsible. So attack me if you must. But remember, I don't dislike you, I only dislike what you have done here.

Who am I to say this? No one really. Yet I am allowed to speak my mind right here in this writing. That is the beauty of a site like this, I am free to voice my opinion about anything and everything. However, I don't attack people on a personal level, again that is my choice.

As for the idea of expressing oneself in the name of art? Absolutely, I am all for it! Draw yourself naked and then we have something that's creative, my friend :)

I found a big pink n****e this morning. And looked quick behind me to make sure there was no one to see. Hazards of peeking in while at work I guess. My daughter occasions the site. We have an agreement that she stays away from any work with the red letter warning at the top. Most people are pretty good at labelling their work.

There are lots of ways to express your sexuality without all that. I think there's a time and a place for it. While I don't think it's my place to ask them to remove it, if you're going to do something to draw attention I think you should be able to handle the comments maturely.

I agree with you completely Jenny.

The sexual positioning and nudity are meant for their shock value I suppose...or so we say, think, muse, amuse, and/or conclude. Well, whatever, I personally don't dig it. Writing is one thing...but forcing others to read it would not be allowed...perhaps the same should be considered as polite for avatars.

Anyway, I hope the subject is accepted as one worthy of debate.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I went to the "writers" tab just a minute ago - staring at a big nekkid butt - I automatically blocked the new writer. This has got to stop. Wow. I must be getting old. I used to love that stuff - Now there's a time and place. I don't mind erotic - placed well - but the graphic? been there done that - got the t-shirt and passed it on...

Yes, I am a rambling old lady today. I'm okay with that!

I like to think that I am not surprised easily.... but I have been surprised a few times on here. I own a 17 yr old son and a 21 yr old daughter - so there isn't much I haven't heard, seen or been asked about in the last many years. They are on myspace and I have commented about the "little porno stars" more than once. I also laugh at myself that I did not own a black bra until I was 30 - and I would not expect to show it to you then or now.... I think we can be mature here - I think the warning should cover who reads beyond. I have chosen to use it a few times when it was a language or content issue in my mind... I like that you took this stand. Part of what I like to do here is "meet" new writers and I go to the online writers section and look at the avatars for a cool name or the cleverness of a picture in that little space to grab something new to read.... I have been surprised at what I have seen - or even what a few of the names mean.... We can be creative individuals here - but we are a community - soooo.... I guess I will just ignore the b***s and go for the brains!!!

PS I was a Spinning top in the sand my first 6 mos on here.....

This is the internet, Jenny, and you will never stop seeing things you do not wish to see. The whole object of an erotic avatar is most likey to draw attention to oneself and your site/writing. Personally, I'd rather nobody saw any part of my naked body. God, it's bad enough I have mirrors in the house.

As an author of gay erotica, my complaint is why, on the MySpace promotions, do we never see authors of erotica promoted. Perhaps I should reconsider my avatar after all.

I'm glad you wrote about this so strongly.

It is appalling to see some of the avatars on this site. A few people think that anything they do can be justified in terms of creative liberty. I have nothing to say to them for my voice will not be heard. But for the rest of us, I have a suggestionlet us show our disapproval by not reading or reviewing any of their writing, until they change their style.

I think this could work.

What this is all about I have no idea but there are a lot of s***s at MySpace always trying to get me to look at their naked pictures. If I wanted to look at porn I'd buy a Penthouse magazine or something. The T and A are probably higher quality. lol As it is, I spend a lot of my time marking these people as SPAM. Just block them and they'll go away. And face it folks, it aint art, it's a b**b. And in more than one sense of the word. lol. I'm with you all the way Jenny. People who don't respect themselves could at least have some mercy on the rest of us. They just want attention so don't give it to them. Block them.

Aww, these n****e stories and all i can think of is a baby bottle n****e!
I did see that avatar i think once on top writers, maybe it was..
I didn't think much of it , but you are right.. the young people who inhabit this should not be subjected to such.. your comment was to me more humorous than anything..

I feel women are free to express their sexuality in they choose but not here .. As you say it is not a sex only writing site... and we don't , or most of us don't want it to be seen as such .. Erotica has it's place in writing too .. we can read or not read BUT when their is a n****e in your face .. you cannot ignore that..

You have a strong opinion and it is well expressed .. and it is true ..

I did comment myself on an avatar that had just a breast and n****e showing, a while back Jenny, because, like you, I found it distastefull over my coffee and crumpet reading!lol The thing that makes sex sexy is showing as little as possible, men have to have the mystery or they get bored easily and it is hard to restore the attention of a bored man. Bickering is debate in a childish manner, but if it get the topic cleared, I am glad the bickering went on....your comments about under agers here, are highly valid and people should take responsibility for the influence they portray, especially writers and artists such as inhabit this site. I respect your right to give your opinion. Smiling at you, Tai

There is nothing that I could add that hasn't already been posted. I love Siobhan's review and I agree wholeheartedly.

This is why I am leaving the site. Common sense and manors have left the hearts of many hear and the true reason for being here has been tainted. It seems that there is a monthly scandal and It is quite exhausting to behold and be a part of. I must say that you are spot in your observations and your comments. You have always been a wonderful defender of what this place means and what the true nature of an artistic soul is. I must say I will miss the good parts of this place, the kind people and the wonderful words that made many days shine but the ugly side has taken its toll.
