Nowhere Was Here

Nowhere Was Here

A Poem by Jenny Davis

The ball drops kisses
on lashes that flutter
in shimmering lights
that quietly disappear
with closing of the clock.

Old songs and new
mingle in the shadows
where the line between
then and now smudge
with a thumb of change.

            -Nowhere was here-

A place of laughing
remembrance
and tearful forgetfulness,
a time that exists in spirit
but erased by flesh.

Jenny this is so true and touching in that moment we can easily be lost in those moments as the Old Year ends and the New Begins. Old memories, Lost loves. It seems to be an almost magical place where time seems to stand still. you expressed it wonderfully.

trippy picture for the story.

Something in the poem feels like a new year's party

good form, good choice of words, well painted imagery, well imparted message.

a very good piece

I think this is my favourite of yours. It evokes a feeling I am very familiar with. I love the metaphor of the thumb smudging. Very good writing.

This is really up there as one of my favorites of yours. I've been sitting here reading and rereading it and it keeps getting better as I keep getting more meaning from it. If I pasted my favorite lines to you I'd end up pasting the whole thing. The last lines really are quite exquisite:

"a time that exists in spirit
but erased by flesh."

wow there is just so much to those lines alone...wonderfully written words here.

Jenny-

Wonderful piece yet again! You really earn my top marks.

I wish that I could grab your imagery and make it my own (well, not exactly, but you get the drift.) You have a gift for words that seem to dance off my computer screen and bounce to life upon my desk.

Thanks,
Gabe

Beautiful writing Jenny I can see why you are published. You were posting like crazy this morning while I was still stunned. But I wanted to come by and catch some gem I hadn't read before and thank you for staying...peace.

I wish I would have read this sooner Jenny....this is a great way of ushering in the new year, and rushing the old year out the door like a guest that has over stayed their welcome....I love your words JennyBenny!

Time is here and now. We must look towards the future in order to not let the past drags us down. I really liked the way you captured this moment of time. It to me seemed like it was a reflective piece. Know yesterday is exactly that yesterday and tomorrow may never come so really all we have is the here and now so embrace the moment and let it be all that you need right now. We shall not ever forget where we come from but life and the world is always moving forward we can either go with it or allow it to overcome us. Very enjoyable read.
