Vulnerabilities

Vulnerabilities

A Poem by Jenny Davis

The sky is black and blue,

hanging from a thread.

The twine is invisible,

as are the bruises.

The metaphorical use of colours to express despondency, defencelessness, and emotional despair in one's life, with so few words, is both sad and creative. An excellent composition.

Having been through an abusive marriage , this reminded me of dark skies and hidden bruises. I like the color scheme.

The beauty of vague images and strong metaphors is the ability to draw the reader into the poem to adopt their own interpretations, and in so doing, make such a piece their own. This you have done well. Clearly, the use of colour creates an interesting tension, which draws the eye to the black lines and recedes the blue lines back, and as a result, the reader emphasizes the first and third lines. Which is also part of the structure, as I see you are dangling participal phrases off the ends with each blue line. Focus becomes the nouns "sky" and "twine" and dangling are the "thread" and "bruises". Interesting piece, when taken as a whole.

My favorite short one of yours.

I don't know if I like the abstract or the matching of the colors best, but it all blends with the words to create a stunning visual.

These few words speak volumes. Chilling, haunting, sobering thoughts rush over me as I read them.

I love the art with this, it takes the mind away to imagine the words even more, which in themselves carry such weight of meaning.

The sky is black and blue,

hanging from a thread.

The twine is invisible,

as are the bruises.

This could mean so much- emotional abuse comes to mind. Could also be more literal- polution. Very powerful in few words. Great job.

This is short and mildly chilling. Yet so open it could be about a lot of things, abuse is the first one to come to mind. Well done and intriguing.

The fragility of the veneer that covers the bruises, and all it takes is for the thread to break for it all to come to light. You said much in just a few, short lines. Well done!!

All faded blue
