That Day

That Day

A Poem by Jenny Davis
"

In memory of 9/11

"

The morning laid with me in stillness,
rising from comfort, I leaned out my sleepy window
to embrace the new day.

There was something about it,
the day, in all its eerie silence,
a day I will always remember.

It happened, it really happened,
none of us saw it coming, but it happened.

So many souls that day,
plucked from the garden of the living.
So many hearts that day,
struck by lightning from their loss.

I saw their eyes that day,
lights extinguished so suddenly.
I saw their bodies that day,
ashen and unrecognized, discarded.

What a tragedy, it really was a tragedy,
never thought I'd cry, what a tragedy.

Too many beings unloved I say,
how else can one explain their actions.
Too many lost spirits I say,
meeting their maker will prove their errs.

Mornings still lie with me in stillness,
shining light into a heart less naive,
granting me a new day, I waste never.

There is something about this day,
and everyday after, a candle stays lit all days,
flickering always, to remember...that day.

...The day a nation stopped to grieve. A day I will not soon forget. You bring the nostalgia of it all rushing back. WOnderful tribute!

Very strong and almost brutal write. A heart wrenching poem about a day that will not be forgotten. Good work.
