That Day

That Day

A Poem by Jenny Davis
"

In memory of 9/11

"

The morning laid with me in stillness,
rising from comfort, I leaned out my sleepy window
to embrace the new day.

There was something about it,
the day, in all its eerie silence,
a day I will always remember.

It happened, it really happened,
none of us saw it coming, but it happened.

So many souls that day,
plucked from the garden of the living.
So many hearts that day,
struck by lightning from their loss.

I saw their eyes that day,
lights extinguished so suddenly.
I saw their bodies that day,
ashen and unrecognized, discarded.

What a tragedy, it really was a tragedy,
never thought I'd cry, what a tragedy.

Too many beings unloved I say,
how else can one explain their actions.
Too many lost spirits I say,
meeting their maker will prove their errs.

Mornings still lie with me in stillness,
shining light into a heart less naive,
granting me a new day, I waste never.

There is something about this day,
and everyday after, a candle stays lit all days,
flickering always, to remember...that day.

...The day a nation stopped to grieve. A day I will not soon forget. You bring the nostalgia of it all rushing back. WOnderful tribute!

A very emotional piece about an emotional day..........I don't think anyone will ever forget that day, and those who perished.
Very moving and beautifully written.

I like the ripple affect of this poem and executed perfectly with this stanza, "There is something about this day,
and everyday after, a candle stays lit all days,
flickering always, to remember."

This also gives it an interesting format.

I remember what I was doing that day........That day of terrible loss to our country.....I remember what the sky looked like over my peaceful domain........But not so peaceful there that day....I knew not of the people who were lost that fateful day but my heart went out to them all, I was overwhelmed and my soul ached...........A Beautiful and wonderful tribute to those so suffered........

Jenny, you really captured the way most of us felt I think. I live in NY too, upstate, but still I remember the eerie silence because no planes were flying and then suddenly we heard them and they were military transport. Everyone where I was just stood silently and watched them go because we knew they were going down to help find survivors. That awful stillness along with the feeling which plagued so many that such an insane thing did indeed happen are still quite haunting, and you've somehow been able to put those feelings so perfectly into this poem.

Jenny ,

We all felt the same pain .. the shock , the awe , horror all in one bottle.. I wrote a 9-11 but in my own words.. This is beautifully written , my friend.

Hugs,
Angel
