That Day

That Day

A Poem by Jenny Davis
"

In memory of 9/11

"

The morning laid with me in stillness,
rising from comfort, I leaned out my sleepy window
to embrace the new day.

There was something about it,
the day, in all its eerie silence,
a day I will always remember.

It happened, it really happened,
none of us saw it coming, but it happened.

So many souls that day,
plucked from the garden of the living.
So many hearts that day,
struck by lightning from their loss.

I saw their eyes that day,
lights extinguished so suddenly.
I saw their bodies that day,
ashen and unrecognized, discarded.

What a tragedy, it really was a tragedy,
never thought I'd cry, what a tragedy.

Too many beings unloved I say,
how else can one explain their actions.
Too many lost spirits I say,
meeting their maker will prove their errs.

Mornings still lie with me in stillness,
shining light into a heart less naive,
granting me a new day, I waste never.

There is something about this day,
and everyday after, a candle stays lit all days,
flickering always, to remember...that day.

...The day a nation stopped to grieve. A day I will not soon forget. You bring the nostalgia of it all rushing back. WOnderful tribute!

Certainly a day none of us will ever forget... it's the day the country became vulnerable and the nation came together for a short time... sad it takes something like that to bring us together, of coarse now all is status quo now that are defenses are back... a beautiful tribute though. You are always amazing in your words.

i am glad you reposted this .. it was a sad day.. this poem is different from most of the tribute poems, it reads a little easier yet still hits hard..

Peace

I look forward to hearing you do this piece tonight. I remember reading it before but it seems my review was los someshere along the way. This is one of the reason I love you so. You have compassion and a heart that pours out with ever word. I can feel and remeber along beside you of that day. The impact it holds on me even today is powerful in itself. I know the day was horrible but I have to say, that the days that followed were some of the best days i have known. It was then for the first time in my life time I felt a overwhelming sense of compassion and brotherhood.

A really fine work on a difficult subject. I like the organization of this quite well. It also flows gracefully for a work which is so powerful in its message. Great job.

So good to this one up again Jenny...this was on my favorite's list and it's going back up there again. I remember this day so clearly. My cousin worked in the World Trade Center and it was days before we found out that she was okay, but oh what horrible days those were. Our family was fortunate, but so many weren't and that's a wound that will never completely heal.

I am glad I waited until now to read this Jenny. Here it is the day after and the pain is still there.
This is truly a candle flickering to remember always.
