Sing
Jenmarie

It was summer, I had found
 1
myself at the base of an oak again
 2
silence but for distant wind
 3
arriving through trees
 4
then low to the ground through the field
 5
stippled with wild flowers.
 6
a wren in a high branch shifts
 7
and sings a song
 8
I, for a moment, think I understand
 9
but I can't truly understand
 10
what it is to be unaware of mortality
 11
to project with such freedom
 12
a song of pure joy
 13
and I sat, palms cupped over soft earth
 14
wondering what it must be like
 15
to let go
 16

to
 17
    let go
 18
              of
 19
                  the
 20
                        heaviness
 21

and right there in front of God,
 22
the oak and wren on a high branch
 23
I began to sing.

what a lovely idea...to be like the wren and not be aware of our immortality...i think we would be too busy living to think about dying.
