Wake up

Wake up

A Poem by Jennifer A. Aspuria
"

The first poem I have written in a LONG, LONG time, so be gentle.

"

Wake up, wake up
Come look at this,
Soaked in piss

And possibility
on the stained countertop, next to the cracked sink
from when I dropped a glass perfume bottle,
cracked the porcelain and not the glass

Wake up, wake up

I need a cigarette, need the serenity
of standing, still, grasping,
amidst the dew and morning mist
damp, slimy algae-covered deck,
            grasping this cigarette
is my last

As it crushes out
crushes into sprinkles of burnt tobacco
fragrant beneath my finger tips

Wake up, wake up

Hushed trepidation, excited whispers
            who do we call first?
Alana, Alana who will feed our excitement
who will say

            Congratulations

About
I am 28 years old and have been writing as long as I can remember. So far I've only had one poem (a sonnet) published in some coffee book table when I was in high school. I am a lazy procrastinator wi.. more..
