to GIVE

to GIVE

A Poem by Jennesis

The baby aisle in Target

Pulls at the grief

An empty womb

A quiet lonliness

Like a child alone in the park

Wanting to be chosen to play

With the rest of the cool kids

The capacity of this heart

Is infinite and vast

So much mothering

inside

to GIVE

Yet it lays wasted

The doled out bits

Pale in comparison

to what is left

inside

to GIVE

And NO! f**k you very much

Adoption is NOT the answer

Anger about the contract

Years of fertility wasted

And then

there was hope

Desire and possibilities

Opening

Inside

to GIVE

LIFE

From the no longer

EMPTY

Dreams of the womb

Your first stanza bursts at the seems with overwhelming yearning for motherhood. I read it two or three times because it just pulled me in. The two shorter middle stanzas release the anger. The third promises hope. A great write!

Thanks so much FT! I appreciate it.
I thought this was brilliantly presented and spoke with firm conviction. I don't wish to offend you, but I honestly believe the first stanza would have been enough on its own.

Much enjoyed this, Jenn!

I actually love the idea of just keeping the first stanza! I appreciate so much the feedback, when I.. read more
there has to be such difference between conceiving on our own, and having a child who came from another....you took us down that aisle with such devastating starkness.
