Monday's Baggage

Monday's Baggage

A Poem by Jennesis

The heaviness of Monday

Weighs me down

So many bags to carry

The briefcase of unfinished weekend projects

The gym bag stuffed with fitness goals

The lunch sack holding economic nourishment

The purse filled with everything but money

and the kitchen sink

And that’s just the baggage you can see.

You don’t see

The heavy weariness of sleepless nights

A lonely weekend

The fatigue of an early morning workout

The stress of getting it all done

The responsibility of being a healer

The burden of a lovers lie

The load of broken promises

Shoulders slumping with unseen cargo

Encumbered by this baggage

A small feather whispers by my nose,

And I am reminded that in my spirit

On winged breath

I am free

for some of us this is figurative....the emotional baggage from way too many sundays make mondays really heavy---

love the allegorical spirit of this piece...
you draw a reader in like a good novel written in first person does. WE feel like the character/speaker in the poem.
