Look insideA Poem by JennesisThis came from a writing challenge. Pick five random objects without thinking, place them on the table and write a poem about them. I've included the picture of my random objects. The peel is rough And pitted, life has been tough Take a Look inside The bitter fruit within Is too beautiful to hide The pink flesh begins To soften as the skin Peels back, juices flowing Knowing That we are all just the same With different names Some of us are like fine wine We get better in time You cast us away You refuse to play Because the label's not name brand You can't stand Ones less than you But wait! I'm not through The ducking becomes the swan It doesn't really take that long All you see Is the outer me The cow face Standing in place But hidden behind Is a functional mind A place to carry a part Of your heart We love familiarity Rejecting differences Checking references We like clarity And conformity Yet there is beauty In asymmetry Don't try to extinguish The fire Of Their desire Because it doesn't distinguish Or match you and your view The wooden boat Carries their love It gets tired and old But still there are stories To be told If you listen and care We so easily judge And hold a grudge Refusing to see The humanity That lies within us all Instead we fall Victim to racism Sexism Ageism Even feminism So even though the peel is rough And life's been tough For you and for me Let the fruit be seen Let the fire burn Look inside Don't hide It's our turn To live and love Do you hear what I speak of? © 2015 JennesisReviews
