Not my kind of worldA Poem by JenLearning from the world around me That my choice to go with him When I should have known Makes his choice my fault Learning from the world around me That my every decision Gives him a justification To take something that wasn't his And I'm learning from the world around me That it's not safe For a woman to walk alone at night In case he's also walking alone at night The lonely predator, not so lonely Society insisting that women be careful But not that men don't rape I live in a world That because I was stupid enough to get in the damn car That I was stupid enough to drink something he gave me That I was careless enough to let this happen to me It's not his fault. What kind of world do we live in Where taking something from someone without asking Is justified by the clothes she wears, Or the times she decides to walk Or the drinks she decides to consume What kind of world do we live in Where a victim becomes a criminal by default What kind of world do we live in Where you take the fault for someone else's decision to be less than human Not the kind of world I want to be a part of.
