I'm Glad That You Did

I'm Glad That You Did

A Poem by Jenna Kay
"

A Letter to My Freshman Self Written on the Night of My High School Graduation

"
I wish you could have seen me
I stood upon that stage and received the envelope to my future
Draped in white, I was the purest form of myself
Gold on my eyes, and paint on my hands
I know you wouldn't have wanted it any other way
You'll be here some day
I promise
I know that now it feels like you'll be trapped inside that cage of a mind forever
But I swear that soon those bars will become feathers and wings will rise where scars once did
I'm still waiting for the chance to fly, but we will in time

My child, I have my entire existence owed to you
Standing in my cap and gown, I felt you, deep within my heart
I saw you crying, falling apart
And I couldn't help but weep for both of us
We have the same fire in our souls
The same desire in our eyes
You're just in hiding and I'm letting my stars shine
I'm on the edge of the universe in the balance of space
And the colors of the cosmos are taking me into the beyond
Just be patient, my dear
The darkness can seem so cold
(And admit it for once - lonely)
But you won't always be alone
I promise

So you know all of those dreams you just can't give up?
I'm living them
You know those friends that you can't let down?
You're still best friends with them
And that one part of you that you hate...
You have accepted as a part of you
Like your loud voice and large feet
You use those feet to dance your own steps
And your voice to sing the poetry of your heart
Every part of you is worth saving
And I'm glad that you did
Because you will be happy
I promise

Gentle, kind and positive words. I liked them.

Good wisdom shared in the words above. Each of us need to know. We are alone and we are needed. Thank you Jenna for sharing the excellent poetry.
