Unfortunately, the Clock is Ticking

Unfortunately, the Clock is Ticking

A Poem by Jenna Kay

“Unfortunately, the clock is ticking, the hours are going by. The past increases, the future recedes. Possibilities decreasing, regrets mounting.”
― Haruki MurakamiDance Dance Dance
Early in the evening
As the indigo sky slowly fades into darkness
We lay together on your bed
Your head on my stomach
My fingers running through your hair, as if tracing every strand
You move your eyes to look up at mine
That stare longingly towards yours
"If we're going to talk, we're running out of time"
Time
Always running out of time
But I can't speak
Not when I haven't had sleep cause I've been thinking too much
I close my eyes, and tilt my head to the side
And you take the opportunity to place two fingers just under my jawline
Without words, I know
We stay still for a moment
I'm silently wishing that my pulse isn't pounding as hard as it feels against your fingertips
You let go after an eternity of holding my breath
"Your heart is doing some strange things"
What's it doing, I ask
"It sped up very fast, and then slowed waayy down"
The opposite of us
I relax once more with you in my arms
Wishing we could stay right here forever
And we wait without words
To the ticking of my watch
And the slowly rising beat of my heart

This is a very well written poem!! It shows how, even with love, there is not enough time in the day to be with someone. Even with we are with that certain someone we watch the time tick away because it's so special that we don't want that moment to end, but eventually it does. Thank you for sharing.
