The Phoenix

The Phoenix

A Poem by Jenna Kay

From ashes I was born
upon a new world already laying curses within me
I breathed in the toxic smoke, embers burning in my eyes
In only a moment, I already knew the pain of bearing coal upon my back
And my face
dusted in a grey made only darker when I tried to wipe it away with my soot-covered hands
My lungs were washed in darkness
And I could no longer breathe
But before my heart could take no more,
I broke the surface
I lifted from the smoke using the embers in my eyes to light my way
The coal rolled off my back to reveal such light wings
And my face was streaming in color
And I flew
From ashes I was reborn

Extraordinary!
Words fail me at the moment,
But as the phoenix flew from the ashes it was born, it carried with it my spirit to great hights!
Very well written and the theme was amazing
