Burning Nebulas

Burning Nebulas

A Poem by Jenna Kay

After you break up with someone, you're not supposed to text them, asking if you can call
You're not supposed to call them, asking if you can hang out
And you're definitely not supposed to hang out, ending with a kiss and a too-late "I love you"
Well I should've known
You've always been a rule-breaker
You've always been the type to sweep a girl off her feet
But you carry her so high that she suddenly can't breathe
She's so distracted by the stars, she doesn't even see
That the moon you promised has a dark side too
And even after I noticed the sun's light burning low
I kept pointing out the constellations
Because I didn't want to admit that what we were doing was wrong
We had called it all off
Saying love wasn't our thing
Well it is when you're holding me
It is when your lips brush my neck and you send me into shock
I walk that blurred line when you trace your fingers down my spine
I can't stand how your eyes can drift so deeply into mine
I'm head over heels infatuated with you
My mind is telling me that your tenderness is treacherous but when my body feels your touch I am blind to every black hole that you are
And I only see stars
I've gone way to far to give your heart back now
Why do we do this?
Why do we insist on loving each other's skin when we know damn well we can't love what's within?
We've gone way too far and I can't control this longing for care inside
I'm broken to bits
Every piece of me

Falling

But baby, your kisses are like cigarettes to me
I take you in between my lips, breathe you in, and cough
But I keep on smoking your toxic love even though I know it's deadly
And the warmth of you is really the heat of a flame that is sure to burn me if I drag this on too long
This is just so wrong!
So next time you feel like texting me, put down your phone and try to let me go
Because I can't do this alone

It's just funny, you know

How nebulas are just beautiful smoke

And stars
