UntitledA Story by Jenna Hardingjust a short opener, wasn't sure where to go with it, but was stuck in my head so I had to write it downShe was wrenched from the engrossing world of Lily Bart and Lawrence Seldon by the bus coming to a lurching halt at her stop. Hurriedly she gathered up her things and departed the vehicle, managing to step onto the pavement just as the doors closed with a whoosh of air behind her. With a small sigh she shifted the weight of her bag on her shoulder and began walking, clutching her folder and book tightly to her chest, flimsy protection from the biting wind. As she walked, her thoughts raced through a million things, from the amount of work she had to do, to her annoyance at being pulled from her book and its far more preferable world to the one she herself inhabited. She gave a small smile at the irony of that thought, considering the book's resolution. The day, starting out fairly reasonable had gotten progressively worse, culminating in a French class and a rather heated argument between two friends, that had been cut short by her own intervention, which, although ceasing the conflict, did not however prevent the disagreeable atmosphere that followed. These thoughts still resided with her as she crossed the concrete patio and grasped the crude plastic handle of the rather worn wooden door, and with a simple flick of her wrist, turned it. She pushed the door open and stepped inside, letting it swing back and shut behind her. She was home. © 2008 Jenna HardingAuthor's Note
