So You're Leaving

So You're Leaving

A Poem by Jenna Harding

So you’re leaving

I watch you pack your suitcase

Silence. No words are said

Not even goodbye.

You don’t care though,

Dry eyes speak volumes.

So you’re leaving

I watch you walk away

Empty. You never turn around though

Not once. But deep inside I’m glad.

I couldn’t bear for you to see me cry.

So you’re leaving

I watch you climb into the taxi

Blurry. Tears stream down my face

Matching the rain on my window

My heart is breaking inside,

With no band aids to fix it.

So you’ve left me

I’m picking up the pieces you shattered

Slowly. Time will be my greatest healer.

Thoughts of you are growing few and fleeting

I’m pushing the remnants of you from my mind.

I am stronger than you thought possible.

Not bad..though in the beginning theres a sense of control on the subject which you seem to lose a bit towards the end. That sense of control adds/added a level maturity to the poem which is hard to find or rather not often found in poems of this subject matter. In the last stanza, "Time Will be my greatest healer"this line seems fairly weak and cliche, I'd try for something stronger. While this is an obvious emotional write, it can be made so much stronger by simply stilting the foundation, making it last the storm. But all In all, a good piece which can be made better.
