Last Goodbye

Last Goodbye

A Poem by Jenna Harding

I know you wanted to stay with me

But you had to fly away.

Your beautiful eyes that shone so bright

Will never see another day.

I tried to hold on tight to you, but you still

Slipped through my fingers.

No matter how many days pass by

I still feel your touch, it lingers.

I promised you I’d be with you

Until the end of time.

You promised me the same thing too,

That you’d always be mine.

But it was all too much for you to take,

All the pain, and the heart ache.

But at least I know, I can be sure,

That you’re at peace at last.

Looking back I’m certain there was more I could have done.

You fought so bravely to the end,

But in the end,

It won.

I’ll never get over losing you,

To say otherwise would be a lie.

But I take some comfort in the fact,

That starlight is where you reside.
