Midnight Scrutiny

Midnight Scrutiny

A Poem by Jenna Harding

Bleary eyed and tired,

You regard your face.

Pick out the imperfections

With a fine tooth comb.

Blatantly obvious,

Illuminated in the harsh makeshift

Light of day.

Every blemish and crease,

Every scar, every pore,

All painfully visible, not to them maybe.

But to you.

Your muddy eyes take it all in,

Record every fault.

Overlooking nothing.

You are your own worst enemy.
