ChameleonA Poem by Jenna HardingInspired in part by 'Lady Lazerus' by Sylvia PlathChameleon Slip out of your skin like the snake that you are. Squeeze into the suit, Become someone else, someone better. Masquerade as another entity, Take their place for a day, a month, Forever? Shed your hair ffrom the roots, Say hello to blonde? Mousey? Auburn? Rip your eyes from the sockets. Replace with blue? Green? Hazel? Slim and slight? Or rounded? Smoker or non? Mother? Sister? Friend? Doctor? Lawyer? Cop? Who cares, you'll cchange your mind again Soon. So the cycle begins again. And runs Ad nauseum. © 2008 Jenna Harding |
