Chapter 1: Mixed Emotions

Chapter 1: Mixed Emotions

A Chapter by Jeneeness

The Kyoshi Warriors had been at sea for a long time. Ty Lee and

Suki were talking about on this trip. Ty Lee was excited about seeing her family, her friends, the food, genuinely excited about everything. Chattering on, until suddenly her expression grew sullen.

Suki asked in concern, “Ty Lee? Something wrong?” After a few moments of silence and a deep sigh, the gentle soul replied,

“What if Azula doesn’t want to see me?”

If Suki hadn’t had gotten to know Ty Lee, she would have thought this question a dumb one. She would have said, Azula is insane, don’t bother. Suki knew better. Azula and Ty Lee had something no one could understand but them, but that was before the day Ty Lee betrayed her at the Boiling Rock. Things became more complicated than they already were.

“I’ll go with you to see her... if you want.” Suki offered with a hopeful smile.

She wiped her nose with the side of her gloved hand, “Thanks, Suki. I’d like that.”

They embraced and then Suki’s face had taken the same shape as Ty Lee’s. Ty Lee asked “Suki, you ok?”

Suki had found that it was easier to express herself when Sokka was around. Other times, she was the strong- willed, never worried warrior. As a warrior, she was trained not t make herself vulnerable, physically, or emotionally. “I’m fine.” She lied.

“Suki. I can see in your aura that there is something making you really sad.” The ex performer said with genuine concern.

Suki had forgotten Ty Lee’s experience with auras. She had always been skeptical about it, but how could she be when she was always right? “It’s just... Sokka stopped sending letters and-”

“You think he’s run away with a beautiful peasant that he saved from the wrath of the rioters?”

Startled at the volume, and by the unexpected reply, suki continued “No, AND I’m afraid something might have happened.”

“Oh,” Ty Lee said as she placed her hands on her face and her elbows on her knees. “well, I am sure he is ok, Suki. He’s strong just like you.” You couldn’t help but smile when Ty Lee smiled. Maybe that’s why Azula only takes kindly to her. “You know, this reminds me of a song that Iroh used to sing. It’s about a boy coming home from a war. Would you like to hear it?”

“Sure.” And she began to sing.

Leaves from the vine

falling so slow.

Like fragile, tiny shells,

drifting in the foam.

Little soldier boy

come marching home.

Brave little soldier boy

comes marching home.

The lead warrior let one tear fall down her cheek.
