No way to say I'm sorry

No way to say I'm sorry

A Poem by Jen Marie
"

This is from a collection of poems responding to reading Tess of the D'urbervilles

"

How do I apologize

For the things I’ve already been forgiven for

How can I make up

For the things I’ve managed to ruin

How am I supposed to be happy

When the pain of guilt will keep from smiling

I will do what is asked

Because that’s the daughter I’ve become

I will fix everything

No matter the lengths I must go

I will say yes

When any sane girl would turn away

I will apologize

By traveling to the ends of the earth for forgiveness
