Which Way Is Up?

Which Way Is Up?

A Poem by Jen

It pulls on you, like the strings of a puppet
Twisting nerve endings into flaming fuses
Which way is up?
Up where you feel accomplished
In that place of goal sucess

Mind taunts swirling unbbridled choices
The palate sautéed with flavors of failure
Reminded by the brick wall that leads
to a dead-end street

Addiction taunts an easy fix
You have only to close your eyes
Ignorance blissfully numbs
Face the master illusionist
or its back to ground zero
Where middle aged hopes
fade to dust

As you reach up...
You feel that one warm hand pulling you back
The question was not which way is up
The answer is being here, now
stop looking up...
you'll see what is right in front of you
