Yellow Umbrella

Yellow Umbrella

A Poem by Jennie Baron

Out on the street on a rainy day

A woman with a yellow umbrella caught my eye.

She’ll never know how the sight affected me

How cheery and jaunty it looked

Amid the gloom,

The fog on my car windows,

And the rain streaming down on them.

Please, please never let me be

One of those insufferably boring,

Eminently forgettable

Black-umbrella people.

A red one would be nice,

But I’m going to buy myself

The brightest yellow one I can find.

Lovely, Jennie! This is a great testament to those who strive to be different and not fall into the constant mold, which I can assume is the "black umbrella". I love the choice of color for the umbrella, what inspired it? I myself have a blue one (with polka dots) haha. :)

Enjoyed it a lot! Well done :):)

i started thinking of that song Yellow Balloon by Yellow Balloon...

"just like a yellow balloon on a rainy afternoon
i never liked the rain before, it always made me stay inside"

but this is a bright spot on a rainy day...and i like the analogy...

the black, boring umbrella of sameness....i don't want to be like that...i want to be different, cheerful...a bright spot in life.

That's exactly what this is about, Jacob!
Blue would be my colour of choice, but in all likelihood I'd get a black one just to fit in with the crowd haha A light-hearted piece that still carries a certain message if one chooses to go deep enough with it, and I go deep with everything, it's in my DNA...nicely done Jennie :)
