Yellow Umbrella

Yellow Umbrella

A Poem by Jennie Baron

Out on the street on a rainy day

A woman with a yellow umbrella caught my eye.

She’ll never know how the sight affected me

How cheery and jaunty it looked

Amid the gloom,

The fog on my car windows,

And the rain streaming down on them.

Please, please never let me be

One of those insufferably boring,

Eminently forgettable

Black-umbrella people.

A red one would be nice,

But I’m going to buy myself

The brightest yellow one I can find.

Lovely, Jennie! This is a great testament to those who strive to be different and not fall into the constant mold, which I can assume is the "black umbrella". I love the choice of color for the umbrella, what inspired it? I myself have a blue one (with polka dots) haha. :)

Enjoyed it a lot! Well done :):)

Thank you so much. I appreciate your reading and review.
Oh I love this little ditty, 'black-umbrella people'....wish I had thought of that, I have a red umbrella myself...but yellow sounds so refreshing. Enjoy'd!

Pleasure was mine Jennie, put a smile on my cranky face this morning.
The first thought I had reading the title was 'Big Yellow Taxi' by Joni...
And this had the same spirit as the song, cheerful and hopeful..

I like the structuring and the flow.
Good write.

We all need some colour in our lives. From a high window on a rainy day in London it is the weirdest thing imaginable to watch all those black umbrellas scurrying by, it's like some sort of dark tidal flow.

I can just picture that bright yellow umbrella, giving color to the world like a late winter daffodil.

My pleasure!
Do you happen to shop QVC? They show them from time to time in bodacious prints!

I love this. I have a red/black one, but I'm pretty certain my mood would be lifted if I saw a yellow one on such a bleary day! Such wonderful introspect, Jennie. I shall think of this whenever it rains here in San Diego...that is, IF it ever happens to, again! ; )
